The Southern Province is launching “Au fil du vivant”, a new series of talks designed to bring the general public closer to the challenges of sustainable development and to knowledge of New Caledonia’s natural heritage.
Four events will be offered over the course of the year at the auditorium of the Southern Province Administrative Centre. Led by scientists and specialists, these talks will address how ecosystems function, local biodiversity, as well as the solutions being implemented to preserve living systems.
The first evening, held on Thursday 2 July, will begin at 5:00 PM with a presentation by Jenny Goetzinger devoted to photo-identification of sea turtles in New Caledonia.
This technique helps improve knowledge of the populations that frequent feeding areas, which are still poorly documented compared with breeding sites.
At 6:30 PM, explorer and physician Jean-Louis Étienne will lead the talk “Reconnecting with the Earth ecosystem”. He will discuss the major balances of living systems and explain how the way ecosystems function can inspire more sustainable development models.
