The Polar POD Program!
The main objective of the Polar POD program is to offer the educational community an insight into the world of a scientific expedition related to the theme of climate change and marine biodiversity.
This program, developed in consultation with the Ministry of National Education and particularly with the Directorate-General for School Education (DGESCO), aims to provide teachers and students with a set of resources specific to this mission and designed to promote the implementation of educational activities at different educational levels and in various disciplines.
From the construction of the Polar POD to its navigation in the Southern Ocean, the expedition offers multiple areas of interest for various disciplines, whether it be, for example, history and literature concerning previous scientific expeditions, or engineering sciences, industrial sciences and techniques concerning the construction of the Polar POD and its supply vessel, or geography, physical sciences, life and Earth sciences concerning the data acquired during navigation in the Southern Ocean.
The resources offered as part of the mission and available on the expedition’s website come in various forms: texts, photos, videos, maps… and will be accompanied, especially during navigation, by interactive content in the form of interviews, real-time videos, and direct exchanges with scientists.
On land, the PolarPODibus, a minibus dedicated to the expedition and equipped with scientific mediation tools, will travel across France to meet with schools, middle and high schools, and scientific, technical, and industrial cultural venues.
