TiPOD is an educational program specifically designed for vocational high school students and students pursuing a BTS (Higher Technician Certificate), directly linked to the scientific mission of the Polar POD.

Alongside the Polar POD, an autonomous drifting buoy will be deployed in the Southern Ocean to complement and refine the data collected by the main station. This ‘mini Polar POD,’ named TiPOD, is the result of a collaborative effort involving several technical fields.

The project draws upon the expertise of several BTS specializations:

BTS SNEC (Digital Systems, Electronics, and Communications): design of the embedded electronic board, sensor programming, and data transmission.
BTS CPI (Industrial Product Design): design of the mechanical structure, calculations for resistance and stability at sea.
BTS SNIR (Digital Systems, IT, and Networks): development of the application for data retrieval and dissemination to the scientific community.

All of this expertise is pooled under the supervision of experts so that the TiPOD is ready for the launch of Polar POD.

An educational and scientific tool!

The TiPOD buoy will regularly collect physical data: wave height, heave, wind direction, and wind force. All this information will be transmitted via satellite and will enrich the observations of the Polar POD.

Project News

The sea trials, conducted last June, proved conclusive.
The deployment of the TiPOD at sea is scheduled for the end of 2025.
