On board Persévérance, an oceanographic sailing vessel designed for polar environments, Jean-Louis Étienne has been conducting scientific missions around the polar regions for the past three years. The boat, adapted to extreme conditions, is notably involved in the Southern Ocean For Seasons programme, which studies the Southern Ocean across all four seasons. Equipped with sail propulsion to limit fuel use and CO2 emissions, Persévérance also has a reduced environmental impact thanks to the filtering of engine discharges.
